Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 153 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

I want something similiar to Stackoverflow's 'as you type' preview of the post you're writing. Was it custom built or is it a freely available as jQuery/mootools etc add on?

It was (de-obfuscated/reverse-engineered) by the SO team. See http://blog.stackoverflow.com/2009/01/wmd-editor-reverse-engineered/

It's part of WMD - no reverse engineering was necessary – Kyle Cronin Sep 10 '09 at 13:41

The blog-title "WMD Editor Reverse Engineered" is confusing then :) – Sampson Sep 10 '09 at 13:42

More correctly, it's a pared-down version of WMD. – Hilarious Comedy Pesto Sep 10 '09 at 13:43

Well, they had to 'reverse-engineer' the obfuscated and minimized WMD code. – jjnguy Sep 10 '09 at 13:54
