What is meta? ×
Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 150 Stack Exchange communities.

Possible Duplicates:
Addiction towards StackOverflow
How can I keep from getting addicted to SO?
How do you escape an addiction to stackoverflow (or other IT sites)?

http://www.StackOverflow.com is simply fantastic... but here is a confession: I'm becoming a bit obsessed with answering questions well, getting points, winning badges....

Is the same thing happening to you? How did you stop yourself?

This is a strange question... and perhaps not a good one for this format. But seriously, am I the only one developing a personality disorder (Stack Overflow mania) here?

Seek help before you stand before a crowd of people with a sockpuppet named Tony the Pony. :P

that's great! :-) – Nestor Nov 10 '09 at 1:20

don't suffer from it - enjoy it!

a little mania now and then is good for you. Just beware of the edge and make sure you turn back before you go too far

When I find myself answering too many questions on stackoverflow.com I open a browser window and answer questions on meta.stackoverflow.com.

This usually fails to stop my mania.

haha.... I love it! – Nestor Nov 10 '09 at 2:43

If your work browser looks like this, then seek professional help.

We all should.

that's hilarious... I feel much more normal among my meta.stackoverflow’s buddies! :-) – Nestor Nov 10 '09 at 3:16
@Nestor: now, you have succumbed to the dark side, now. Come, we have cookies. And waffles. And ponyes. And vampires, we have vampires too. – perbert Nov 10 '09 at 3:27
nonsense - if your work browser looks like that, then you clearly need more RAM – Steven A. Lowe Nov 12 '09 at 2:55
The computer shop professional is the one I was talking about ;) – perbert Nov 12 '09 at 10:50

I was going to vote this question up, but didn't have the reputation on meta.stackoverflow.com yet to do so ;)

you have 101 rep, should be enough to vote... should even be enough to add this as a comment in stead of as an answer ;-) – fretje Nov 10 '09 at 8:21

I will just save myself a lot of typing and refer to my answer here. The one thing that has made me infamous.

A year in, and I'm slowing down. I slipped from Users page 12 to page 13 while on holiday (="vacation") and didn't get too upset. (Although right now I'm the last name on the page, 2 places and 8 points below Spolsky, who I can never seem to catch).

It's only taken a year.

(Hah! One good answer - for Ruby - and "in your face Spolsky" ... for now)
