I know stupid question, but my site seems to be very addicting for a certain portion of people. The problem, is that the traffic isn't high enough yet, so every time someone new finds the site, the whole front page gets filled with just one person's name for the next 1-2 hours, because they basically try to go through all the questions trying to answer them all.

Ideally they will make the rate limiting customizable. For example right now a new user can only post one question every 20 minutes and one answer every 3 minutes. I'd like to be able to edit these numbers, and also be able to make them taper off, so first answer, next answer 3 minutes later, next answer 5 minutes after that, then 10, then 30, etc. That should help with spam. |

This also happens when I go in and re-tag all the questions. Maybe it would be better if the question list pages showed the person that asked the question and not the last person to edit/answer the question. StackOverflow does this as well and I never liked it there either. I've lost count of the number of questions I looked at that I thought Jon Skeet had asked only to find it was a really badly written question and he had just tidied it up. |

It doesn't bother me at all. If I see a new face answering a whole bunch of questions intelligently, I'm very thankful. ("Yeah, another one!") It means I'm one active user closer to having the home page questions fly by so fast that it's hardly an issue if they answer six or seven questions in their first hour. If it's a spammer, then yeah it is a pain, but that hasn't happened yet to me. |
