Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 158 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

How do I put in a block of C code into my posts?
Is there some kind of formatting trick in the textarea of the post that needs to be done in order for it to show up properly?

int main()
{
    printf("please clarify what you mean");
    return 0;
}

Or more specifically, you just indent with 4 spaces, or hit the "Code Sample" button, or press [Ctrl]+[K].

You forgot the newline, and using a variadic function such as printf() without a prototype in scope leads to undefined behaviour; using puts() avoids those problems. – Jonathan Leffler Dec 29 '09 at 18:42
