@Corey This answer is pinned because it's been accepted. It's the only one that you can reliably know is going to be right under the question. The rest, not so much. – Alphabet Soup Oct 18 at 1:33

Ok, my wife and I are planning to launch this site "publicly" tomorrow (Monday the 14th) after the first software update, but since someone's already trying to out us we figured you guys could get a sneak peak anyway. ;)

The site is moms4mom, a place for Moms (and Dads) to ask questions about parenthood.

So far we've been running it in a "private" beta of our own, meaning Tammy invited some of her mom friends to take a look, try it out and give us some feedback.

That resulted in some great insight into how a non-programmer audience views a site like this. The first major issue was the registration system. The login page wasn't very helpful from their point of view. We added an faq question just about how to register for the site, and how to get an OpenID if you don't have one. We also linked to that question directly from the Welcome box that new users see on the right. That seemed to help.

So far the feedback from moms has been great. All the feedback about the idea itself has been positive, and someone commented she would have liked something like this when she was expecting her first. We really think this has the potential to become a great resource for moms on the web.

Go ahead and try it out. Feel free to share it with your mom friends. We'd really appreciate any feedback you guys have. I've got a contact email in my user profile on the site.

EDIT: As of Sept. 23, we're getting lots of great questions and answers. Traffic is small but growing at a steady pace. We're quite happy with the software, Fog Creek's support, and certainly the community in general.

Love the design, Scott. The colour scheme works well, and the rounded corners look good. – Matt Hamilton Sep 14 at 11:03

http://stackoverflow.stackexchange.com is up, although it appears to just be a test site.

Just started http://talkdisc.com for ultimate frisbee related questions.

The change from a traditional discussion site to a question and answer with rated votes seems to be a difficult change for some of the new people, but that could be resolved with a good number of questions and sufficient traction. Being able to adjust the reputation thresholds would help, too.

Fortunately, having a good number of teammates helps in starting a community.

Electronics

for electronics questions about PCB, resistors and other stuff. Also for DIY electronics, like That's Totally Disco from coding4fun.com

Radio amateurs are welcome too.

I just started, it's under construction.

Here's mine:

http://sinkoverflow.stackexchange.com

The focus is on "something in my house isn't working right". The name comes from my experience dealing with our water softener backing up into the laundry room sink about 2 weeks ago.

I've wanted to run a site like this for a while - I've built custom sites for Restaurants and Events (like www.ottawaevents.org) and love the Stack Exchange engine, so I'm going to see how it goes.

I laughed out loud at that name. Great choice! – mbhunter Oct 21 at 15:28

We've now pushed StopTheSearch.com public!

Okay, technically it has been for a few weeks for people here, but it now is being pushed out to the world at large. We chose today for two reasons 1. it is the international blogger day of action dedicated to climate change and 2. we've got one week left before the International Day of Climate Action

I just started adding questions to a new stackexchange site focused on Search Engine Marketing - sem.stackexchange.com. Please take a look and post your questions!

Another for the list... InwardQuest.com - A place to ask questions about spirituality, mind power and reality creation.

(I don't have enough rep to edit the community wiki post)

I don't have edit privileges yet, but here goes with a new site!

While the DNS gods hash out everything, the temp subdomain is "homerepair.stackexchange.com"

I just set it up a few minutes ago... the impetus is my own experience as a non-handyman owning and restoring our first historic house, and now our second. Most home repair sites are either poorly designed, or generic forum off-shoots of various media properties (HGTV, This Old House, various home CAD software programs, etc.).

Home repair, like software, is part engineering, part best practices, and part art, so I think it's a good fit for a SE-like site. Wish me luck, and please come start posting some questions!

I've started a site called Draw3Cards for questions about Magic: The Gathering. The layout and design are quite horrible a.t.m, please disregard ;)

For feedback you can use the Uservoice forum or comment here.

StackUnderflow

StackUnderflow.de is in alpha. It's dedicated to German software developers and admins who prefer reading and writing in German rather than English. Our goal is to provide a platform like StackOverflow in German language. Our platform is open to all kind of IT-related questions: Software development, programming, database administration, server administration, networks, domains, hardware: Just everything that an IT-person may have to ask.

The site is launched by two friends Christian Ullenboom and Franz Bruckhoff. Christian is the author of the 1475 pages heavy German Java book Java ist auch eine Insel. Franz is currently writing an book about software development for iPhone and iPod touch and has recently founded a company for developing iPhone applications.

We believe that platforms of this kind have many advantages over traditional forums. Our goal is to help spread this innovative, less time consuming way of solving problems.

Feel free to join our site from the very beginning. We will love to hear from you!

Was going to wait until I had a designer take a crack at the color scheme and do some graphics, but figured I might as well get on the list:

http://www.dearvesta.com - A place to get advice about life

Just seeded it with a few questions, drew some from some advice columns and such to kind of show what I'm expecting the site to be.

www.ExplainBusiness.com - advice for entrepreneurs and small business owners.

I have to say, this software is an absolute pleasure to use. I showed it to a few friends today and one of them wrote back:

"Dude. I am loving your site and finding value in it already! For reals, not just sucking up."

BPM
A site for all aspects of digital music production, including software (cubase, ableton, sampling), hardware, mixing and so on.

The site will fill up slowly in the coming few weeks as I spread the word and get people to post on it, plus fill it in myself.

It will probably end up having a large amount of people linking their own WAVs/MP3s on it, so having a way to integrate this into the site will be a nice challenge. I'd really love to see something similar to the way the podcasts appear on the stackoverflow blog site - an embedded flash player.

EpicAdvice.com

It's a SE based site for World of Warcraft, part of our site group.

I don't know how many times I've asked a question in a forum and it takes weeding through 10 pages of dumb posts to find the answer, SE is the perfect engine to handle those types of questions :)

Question: Why did the chicken cross the road?

Answer: You decide.

What better use for a Q&A format than inventing jokes?

I'd like to introduce you to a new site we are starting up: http://NoseOverFlow.StackExchange.com

When Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web, he wanted to create a system that would allow everyone access to lolcats and fat kids with light sabers. His vision is largely complete. There is one missing piece. Where does one go to engage in the messy machinations of the comedic nuts and bolts? Get one's hands dirty in the full blown process of creating an everlasting internet meme? Triumph above all others as the perfect photochop comes to fruition? Fight for supremacy as inventor of the best knock-knock joke of all time? NoseOverFlow is the answer.

Its kind of like 4-chan or any other zany forum, but what sets us apart is that if you create something cool your peers can upvote your posts, giving you a greater reputation score. We want to encourage as much collaboration as possible. You can win cash prizes. More importantly, you can be famous on the internet.

We need people, and we need content. Here's a little backhander to encourage you to get stuck right in:

  • $50USD for the best photochop
  • $50USD for the best knock-knock joke
  • $50USD for the best answer to the age old question: Why did the chicken cross the road?
  • $50USD for the user with the most reputation on November 14th.

All promotions are judged by the user community by voting for their favourite entries.

The current promotion ends on Nomvember 14th, 2009. Hope to see you there.
