Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 155 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

This is my first time on this website and I just want to know that can I post any question here about any language possible or is this restricted to some platform?

I am asking this question because I do not see any categories on this site.

So if I am posting any question in Java, then would it go to the same category as the one which goes in .NET category?

I am assuming that it belongs to the category that I write in the tags textbox.

Is that right?

Yes, tags are considered categories.

Any programming related question is allowed on Stack Overflow, regardless of language. If you want to see a "category" then click the tag and you'll be taken to a list of questions that use that tag.
