What is meta? ×
Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 130 Stack Exchange communities.

I think it might be a good idea to allow users of Stack Overflow / meta - Stack Overflow / Server Fault etc to be able to use the same user ID profile data. So for example, If I wanted to do so I could have signed into meta - Stack Overflow with my Stack Overflow User rather than having to create a completely identical user on meta-SO.

I realize this wouldn't be something everyone would want to do, but I think it should be an option for those who don't mind having the same user id / user data

We already allow that. Use the same OpenID that you created for one of your other accounts. Then you'll be able to associate those accounts together and get a +100 rep bonus.

It's close, but not seamless. I suspect that the lack of cross-site cookies makes it impossible to make it completely transparent. –  Kyle Cronin Jul 10 '09 at 4:52

@Jeff: Let TXI feel like he's part of the team. He just wants so bad to be in the team photo at the end of the year. –  Eric Jul 10 '09 at 13:02

I'm already the court jester of StackOverflow. –  TheTXI Jul 10 '09 at 15:09

I'd like to see single-sign-on in the "I don't want to have to keep logging into each site" sense ;) Also - it'd be nice if reputation earned in SO carried over to the other sites... I mean - if I'm trustworthy enough to responsibly help others on one site - aren't I just so on the others too? (and what's this I hear about +100 rep for associating your accounts???) –  Taryn East Feb 27 '10 at 22:13
