What is meta? ×
Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 138 Stack Exchange communities.

On the meta home page I noticed the community user is list as doing something, but cannot figure out what it is. There is nothing on the question or its timeline, but the recent activity is listed with the same timestamp.

He randomly bumps old questions for them to appear in the homepage.

This does not appear anywhere visible.

"He"? Who said it's a he? Maybe it's a she. Most likely it's an "it". In doubt, use "they" as it's even more confusing. –  Andreas Bonini Mar 20 '10 at 19:33

The answer is on the community user profile page..

Hi, I'm not really a person.

I'm a background process that helps keep Meta Stack Overflow clean!

I do things like

  • Randomly poke old unanswered questions every hour so they get some attention
  • Own community questions and answers so nobody gets unnecessary reputation from them
  • Own downvotes on spam/evil posts that get permanently deleted
