I'm thinking of getting a mac mini, which only supports 5.1 sound using its optical connector. My speakers don't take optical audio - just six channels of analog audio. I'd like to ask how to get around that, but it doesn't seem to fit on serverfault, stackoverflow or superuser. Where would I ask about home audio setup?

@nvl: that might be a little young. –  user27414 Apr 6 '10 at 15:28

@Jon - it's not that it's young, it's that it's dead (nothing since October 14th 2009). –  Dominic Rodger Apr 6 '10 at 15:44

@ChrisF: looks good - care to phrase it as an answer? :-) @nvl: yeah, as Jon B said, users are probably a bit thin on the ground there. –  Simon Apr 6 '10 at 15:44

For future reference, you can now ask these kind of questions on the Audio Recording and Production StackExchange site.

Is this actually on topic there? It doesn't sound like it should be, it's got nothing to do with recording or production. –  Aarobot Jan 15 '11 at 20:00

It's not squarely on-topic, but audio hardware questions generally do get answered. –  BenV Jan 15 '11 at 20:12

ARP is dead. HT&A might live, though. –  Cees Timmerman May 21 at 17:42

I would suggest a home theater or AV forum, like this one.

You might get results at Super User, but be prepared for it to be closed.

For a while you might be better off posting on home4film.com which was a Stack Exchange (1.0) site, but it's long since gone.
