Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 158 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

Taking a gander at my profile page on superuser you'll notice that the Markdown is not rendered. In fact none of it renders.

Is this feature-by-design or simply not noticed? I love the use of Markdown, and have actually caught myself coding adding bolds and emphasis with *'s. I'd like to see it added to the profile page.

So do you want it to support Markdown or asking why it doesn't? – random Apr 29 '10 at 8:04
Yes. (11 to go) – Josh K Apr 29 '10 at 13:09

The "about me" field is now Markdown-enabled!

(I agree we should have done this a year ago, but.. hey.. better late than never, right? right?)

Is it supposed to support tag format? I'm not sure that it does, at present. – Lightness Races in Orbit Jun 22 '11 at 14:57
Never mind; it doesn't appear in the preview pane, which is a little confusing. – Lightness Races in Orbit Jun 22 '11 at 14:59
@TomalakGeret'kal: Good catch; that was an oversight. It will work in the preview as well after the next build. – balpha Jun 23 '11 at 6:09
@balpha: Cheers! – Lightness Races in Orbit Jun 23 '11 at 8:31

If you notice, below the text box it says:

Basic HTML is Allowed.

So, I don't believe it is suppose to render Markdown, just basic HTML.

Well, yeah. But I want it to render Markdown. Hence the [feature-request]. – Josh K Apr 29 '10 at 4:47
@Josh you specifically asked Is this by-design or simply not noticed?. I'm answering your question. So why the down vote? – Tyler Carter Apr 29 '10 at 4:48
I know (a) it doesn't render markdown, it bugs me that it doesn't. I wanted to know if it was overlooked (feature-by-design) or if they did it on purpose. I didn't feel it answered my question. – Josh K Apr 30 '10 at 0:18
