In the process of making it easy for people to maintain their sites and keep them running, I wanted to start a list of clones that make it easy to move to from SE 1.0.

We shapado offer hosting for free and import SE sites, for example we have already imported http://blueobelisk.stackexchange.com/ to http://blueobelisk.shapado.com. If you wanna chat we're here http://shapado.com/chat

patcito = we had words about what you did, but I think you just saw this coming as I did not. Good job. – Jack Marchetti Apr 13 at 20:58
It's funny how love for SE and hate for Shapado can trade places so quickly. I personally love both platforms, and think both have their place ... just remember that both are businesses. (Although in Shapado's case, if they change their policy later someone else could always take their code and continue with it). – ripper234 Apr 13 at 21:26

@Michael: patcito doesn't have enough rep to edit CW posts. – Anton Geraschenko Apr 13 at 22:39

OSQA.net has a StackExchange import.

I would like to see an honest comparison of all serious contenders. Features, bugs, usability, pricing ... – ripper234 Apr 14 at 8:46
Could have been answered here meta.stackexchange.com/questions/5449/… if Robert didn't close the question. – Randell Apr 14 at 13:38
Does anyone know if OSQA has hosting providers? (so that you don't have to host it yourself) – Joannes Vermorel Apr 17 at 13:12

Askbot (http://askbot.org/meta) has stackexchange import option (also is a clone of CNPROG, which I've translated to English last summer).

there are no significant data losses IMO in the import process.

If you are a (python) programmer - check out a SE-dump reader django app within askbot (I've originally written it for osqa - but the osqa days are gone for me :)!

It actually parses the dump schema and creates an appropriate django model source code. It also loads SE XML and then copies stuff from fake SE app into the destination.

The UI looks good – AskSci.com Apr 13 at 23:17
thanks! working on it. – Evgeny Apr 13 at 23:23
Can you explain why OSQA days are gone? Is there a need for both Askbot and OSQA to develop in parallel, rather than together? – crb Apr 15 at 10:12
Hi there! We could not work together. We have fundamentally different views on things, including on how to write software. Secondly, I've been working on this project for almost entire year (it was an incognito repository - just another fork of CNPROG) while osqa was established for real in the end of January. I don't want to stop working on the project and found by trying that I cannot work under the OSQA's umbrella. – Evgeny Apr 15 at 16:56
Evgeny, do you considering offering hosting services for AskBot? – Joannes Vermorel Apr 17 at 13:15

GetSponge.com might do something like this. Andrew from Mixergy kept mentioning it, but I don't know anything about it, so please if you do, edit this answer (don't add a new one).

You can find getsponge beta being tested on http://answers.quicksprout.com
