Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 158 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

There are a lot of questions recently trying to include example data or output in tabular format. However, since people (especially new users) clearly don't know how to format these properly, I find myself fixing a lot of these recently.

I'd say the sidebar to the right doesn't really help until you click "full reference". Maybe a little blurb about the <pre> tag is worth adding to the "How to Format" sidebar?

(Now, some people have gotten so far as to indent each line by 4 spaces, but this causes it to be parsed and syntax-highlighted, which is admittedly a bit of a pet peeve that I inevitably edit out as well.)

What? There's formatting help in the sidebar? :-P – tvanfosson Jun 23 '10 at 12:00
@tvanfosson Good point...I just thought it was worth a try? – lc. Jun 23 '10 at 17:48
