Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 158 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

Is this because of the Star Wars analogy Jeff pointed out a while ago? Or is it just by coincidence?

It's forward thinking on Jeff's part. Eventually, when the entire thing is sold to Microsoft or Google, it'll be a simple transition to referring to them as $O, $F, and $U.

Coincidence. There were contests held where users were actually allowed to vote on the names.

Well there was no formal poll for ServerFault (though Jeff did solicit names), and there was no mention of SuperUser until Jeff bought the domain. – Kyle Cronin Jul 15 '09 at 16:14

It's because Joel and Jeff really met for the first time back in the Slytherin House, and you know who their mascot was...
