Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 157 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

It'd be nice to have onebox or "magic" links when on meta sites. If we post a question about another question on the parent site, the onebox preview like on chat would be helpful.

For example, when I paste the URL in this post, it will show up as a hyperlink:

Which links and sites are handled specially in chat?

I propose that a mechanism be added to Markdown or the editor to onebox questions like this instead:

Note that a real onebox is an HTML construct; the above box isn't a demo but a screenshot. Having the exerpt and information provided by a onebox would make it easier to discuss questions on meta sites.

I actually don't understand what this feature-request is asking for. – jadarnel27 Apr 18 '12 at 20:44
@jadarnel27: It is asking for a little preview of the referenced question, as in chat, on Meta sites. – Dynamic Apr 18 '12 at 21:28
@Jae That is it exactly. – Alex B Apr 19 '12 at 17:40
I can't think of a situation in which this would be helpful. In chat, a little preview/summary might be enough information to make a point. On a meta site, if someone's linking to a main site post, you probably need to see the full question, maybe with all comments and answers, for appropriate context. – Pops Apr 24 '12 at 23:36
