Occasionally, I want to paste large blocks of code for illustration, rather than being the bulk of my answer. For example, suppose I'm talking about the results of a benchmark, and I want to give more details:

The above block of code seriously interrupts the flow of text. This could be remedied by making this particular code area 10-15 lines tall, rather than an entire page tall.

Does StackOverflow let you mark a code area as "stout". If not, should it be allowed? Such a feature would let askers and answerers post large code snippets, intended to be parenthetical in nature, without interrupting the flow of the page.

One way around this would be to include your code at the bottom. –  jjnguy Nov 30 '10 at 22:19

I can't speak for anyone else, of course, but I loath "large blocks of code for illustration". –  dmckee Dec 1 '10 at 0:01

@dmckee - maybe that's because they're too long/tall? (This question offers a remedy?) –  Kieren Johnstone Apr 11 '11 at 11:46
