Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 158 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

After entering some code in an answer and the timer expires, the syntax highlighter kicks in and inserts an extra line above the code. Typing some more makes the line disappear. This makes the code jump up and down.

we did upgrade the syntax highlighter recently so it may be related – waffles Dec 10 '10 at 1:28
@waffles - any chance this upgrade removed highlight from HTML and JavaScript? – Shadow Wizard Dec 12 '10 at 13:58
@Shadow ... possibly, @Geoff is handling it so be sure to raise an issue on meta if there are any other issues you find – waffles Dec 12 '10 at 23:18

We believe this to be fixed now - please let us know if you still see an issue.

Hey Geoff, I'm seeing issues now in live, HTML syntax highlighting isn't what it used to least that's what appears to be happening. Take a look at anything posted in the last few hours: Some questions appear fine, but after several edits and character stripping...I had no luck with those, possibly something changed on the parser side? – Nick Craver Dec 11 '10 at 11:20
(See also Code formatting does not work for JavaScript.) – Arjan Dec 12 '10 at 14:13
I'm not getting any highlighting in at least some cases, for example, this answer. – Dennis Williamson Dec 13 '10 at 18:59
