Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 158 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

I frequently format function / variable names as monospace blocks for easier reading, but at the same time I often want to create hyperlinks of them to the relevant documentation. However, you can't do both.

  • monospace only

  • hyperlink only

  • [monospace hyperlink](

I'd like the last one to work, but as you can see it doesn't.

Yes you can (do both):

monospace hyperlink

[`monospace hyperlink`](

You just have to put backticks inside the square bracket links.
