This question appears to be off-topic. The users who voted to close gave this specific reason:

  • "This question does not appear to be about the software that powers the Stack Exchange network, within the scope defined in the help center." – ChrisF, ɥʇǝS, Caleb, rene, 3ventic
If this question can be reworded to fit the rules in the help center, please edit the question.

This is about multiple sites and is therefore on-topic. –  Lance Roberts May 26 at 8:17

@Lance It's about two specific sites, not Stack Exchange as a whole, which is how that close reason is intended to be used. –  Emrakul May 26 at 8:34

@Emrakul, yes, and therefore, it's not about just one, so it can't be migrated. Not every question on Meta SE has to apply to every single site. –  Lance Roberts May 26 at 8:35

@Lance No, but it's still off-topic by the intent of the close reason, even if not by the letter. Would you rather I have written a custom "off topic because it is about two specific sites"? The questions also aren't intended to all be migrated. –  Emrakul May 26 at 8:36

@Emrakul, no, I'd rather you leave it be. It's a necessary question that will need constant updating in the future, as it has needed in the past. We don't need to purify the site to that level. –  Lance Roberts May 26 at 8:37

@Lance I strongly disagree that this is a necessary question. Besides, and I quote: "Questions on Meta Stack Exchange should pertain to our network or software that drives it as a whole, within the guidelines defined in the help center." This doesn't. I really don't want to bother arguing this further, though. If you do not agree with the close reason's intent as written, that's your choice. –  Emrakul May 26 at 8:39

@Lance Even if the question is closed, you can still update and view the list. Closing isn't deletion. –  Emrakul May 26 at 8:43

@LanceRoberts: It's not on-topic. As you realize, it would not be on topic on either MSO or M.Programmers, but the edit to make it on-topic on those sites is trivial. (Obviously: split it into two questions, one about each site, and connect them with a link. There's no reason at all for both sites to appear in a single question.) –  Ben Voigt May 29 at 14:34

@BenVoigt, no, anything that applies to more than one site would be on-topic. BUT I do plan on creating and moving the archive to MSO in a bit when I have a minute. Then someone can move the Programmers part and all the extreme purists will be happy again. –  Lance Roberts May 29 at 14:37

@LanceRoberts: Actually, the way this should be done IMO is a question about using the data explorer to find the top 20 popular deleted questions on any site, with an answer that not only explains the query, but contains ready-made links querying SO, and Programmers, and for sorting by votes and views and favorited count. –  Ben Voigt May 29 at 14:39

@Ben DE doesn't have deleted stuff, so such a query is impossible. –  Billy Mailman May 29 at 18:07

I have no objection to compiling a list of popular deleted questions, but this belong on each site's meta. Obviously, that is why per-site metas exist. –  Cody Gray Jun 2 at 15:54

What is the quality control criteria for even appearing on this list? –  random Jun 10 at 0:28

@moguzalp - yeah, that's the rumor. Shog has mentioned many times that an archive is coming. –  Adam Rackis Mar 15 '12 at 20:16

instead of delete, why not filter. it's ok if one doesn't want to see hundreds of old and closed questions at the top but this is not a good reason enough to delete them –  naxa Jun 30 '12 at 18:37

So, almost 2014, where is the archive? –  Franck Dernoncourt Dec 25 '13 at 17:56

Well, it's March 2014 – so I'm guessing that “archive” thing was more of a rumour, wasn’t it? (Whatever you do, please don’t tell me it’s not a rumour and that that to-do list is still reaching back to 2012…) –  e-sushi Mar 27 at 18:27

Can we at least view them in archive form? –  Wold May 7 at 6:47

So those two Programmers questions are the only justification for keeping this on Meta instead of SO meta or Programmers meta alone –  random Jul 6 at 18:37

Feel free to add questions from Programmers, otherwise it's just a Stack Overflow list @lan –  random Jul 24 at 18:57

@random, I pulled my account on Programmers a long time ago, after they changed the original intent and there was no way to figure out what was OT. I'm hoping someone (with the 10k rep to see them) who frequents Programmers will update it; in fact, I'm hoping they create the one on Programmers, so I can stop maintaining both this one and the one on MSO. Please note that I didn't create the question, and wouldn't have done it that way. –  Lance Roberts Jul 24 at 19:14
