In this question http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1163547/using-domain-name-in-htaccess-rewrite I have an inline code block that contains an url, which is being linked however the rest of that sentence is also being linked.

technically a bug, but I think in this edge condition it's easier just to use a real indent-4-spaces code block, or <pre>
