Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 158 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

I think it can be cool to have something like this: [User:Shadow-Wizard]
Parsed as link to the user profile page, much like the tag links that we already have.

What do you say? Comments are welcome. :)

Edit: per Grace correct comment, more relevant suggest is: [user:152859] where the ID can be easily retrieved from the profile page URL itself:

Would have to be the user id, because the display name can be replicated, actually. – Grace Note Mar 9 '11 at 15:53
@Grace good point, edited my question accordingly. – Shadow Wizard Mar 9 '11 at 15:58
This suggestion is essentially the same as requests for some sort of @ syntax that automatically links to the user. (i.e. @:2598 where 2598 is my user id) – jjnguy Mar 9 '11 at 16:09
@jjnguy didn't saw such request yet, sorry.. but @ is already used to notify users.. ? – Shadow Wizard Mar 9 '11 at 18:27
it's ok. No need to apologize. I was just mentioning it to be thorough. The @ is already used to notify. But it would be nice if it could do both. I'm sure you would like to know when you were being mentioned in posts. – jjnguy Mar 9 '11 at 18:44
