What is meta? ×
Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 127 Stack Exchange communities.

I think that there is a consensus that SE family of sites provide high quality information on various topics. Very often, when I need to look for answer for a question that I have, want to limit Google to either stackoverflow.com or to stackexchange.com, depending on the topic of my query. However, very frequently the topic in question is relevant to both SO and to one or more SE sites. In those cases I end up with two google searches. For example:

artificial neural networks python site:stackoverflow.com

and

artificial neural networks python site:stackexchange.com

(the latter will cover sites such as stats.stackexchange.com and biostar.stackexchange.com)

It would be very nice if SO contents was mirrored to SE domain (e.g. stackoverflow.stackexchange.com). This way the sort of searches listed above will be faster and easier. I am sure that such a consolidation has additional advantages.

Why don't you just use the search box on stackexchange.com ? It's powered by Google search and covers both Stack Exchange and Stack Overflow –  Barry Apr 14 '11 at 10:54

The results are different because you are limiting your search to stats.stackexchange.com and stackoverflow.com You need to use the search box on stackexchange.com to search all sites. –  Barry Apr 14 '11 at 11:37

That's because your search is 'localized' to the site your searching on and the other is for the entire network :-) –  Ivo Flipse Apr 14 '11 at 11:37
