Meta Stack Exchange is where users like you discuss bugs, features, and support issues that affect the software powering all 157 Stack Exchange communities.

What is meta?
Here's how it works:
  1. Any Stack Exchange user can ask a question
  2. The community provides support, votes on ideas, and reports bugs
  3. Your voice helps shape the way Stack Exchange operates

For some reason I'm baffled by, there's a specific whitelist of characters that can touch the special markdown characters (e.g. *) in comments without breaking them. Can dashes/hyphens be added to this list?

Oh-so-bizarre. – Nick T Jun 26 '11 at 4:58

You only find the existence of that list bizarre until people come complaining that "I think a*b is 42" doesn't come out quite as expected :) – balpha Jun 26 '11 at 8:06

This will be the case after the next build of the sites and of the chat, respectively.
