Experts-Exchange is a Q&A site similar to Stack Overflow, but employs shady SEO-tricks have to pages show up in search engine results but at the same time make it appear as if user must have a paid subscription in order to access the answers.

Stack Overflow was positioned as a competitor to Experts-Exchange. The nickname "the hyphenated site" was coined by Joel Spolsky in the Stack Overflow podcast, episode XX, XX min XX secs, in order not to directly name the competitor.
