Possible Duplicate:
Favorite Tags, auto-learn

It would be cool feature if Favorite Tags could be pre-populated based upon the a users commonly used tags. I know veteran SO users that don't even know what Favorite Tags are used for and are surprised when they see I have highlighted questions which reflect my favorites list. There could be a feature that allows users to select which of their common tags they'd like to use as favorites based of a given threshold (used xx times) or selected via picklist.

It would be great to activate this feature when a user reaches a certain milestone - earned a badge for a given tag, hits xxx reputation level, etc. This would be a great way of introducing users to the favorites capability.

  • Interesting idea, but what about people who know it's there, they just don't want to use it? – gobernador Jul 18 '12 at 17:48
  • It could be opt-in, just like moderator/review level controls. – SliverNinja - MSFT Jul 18 '12 at 17:49

This also kinda already happens to a degree, on Stack Overflow's front page. – Tim Stone Jul 18 '12 at 17:51
  • To me it's a shocker that veteran users don't know what favorite tags are. I think it should be introduced in the user on-boarding as they are learning more about the SO structure. How favorite tags work today is fine, it would just be nice to provide user awareness early on so they can make better user of their interaction with the site. Auto-Deriving Favorite Tags (user-invoked) is just one idea to promote Favorite Tag awareness. – SliverNinja - MSFT Jul 18 '12 at 17:56
