Possible Duplicate:
Should we downvote duplicates?

I posted a question which was down voted as people say the concept is not good for Q&A sites. I supported them. The question was then closed as there are possible duplicates in this site.

My question is why the question was not deleted as already duplicates are present and if in future such duplicate questions arise they can always cite the same links link1 and link2 which was posted in the previous question as original posts. Now people say there are need of closed questions (closed for being duplicate) because they can be reopened by editing.

But I think there are questions which should be deleted rather than closing. For example, the same question can't be improved any more because the idea is not going to work.So I suggest to delete this type of question. Also the poster can't delete them before 30 days because it may harm them.

  • Ok.But what if the poster gets down votes for them like I am getting now? Then it must be closed so as no body can vote down it,too!! – Mistu4u Jul 24 '12 at 15:38
  • Closed questions can still be voted on... – Lix Jul 24 '12 at 15:39

That I know, but who will stop users from down vote, too? And by the way why will anybody up vote ? I can see continuous down votes since it is been closed!! – Mistu4u Jul 24 '12 at 15:41
  • Since you asked it only a couple of hours ago, people might still see it when looking through recent questions. This will stop after a while. Unless you bring it to our attention again as in this question. ;) Other than that there's nothing to stop anyone from downvoting a question. – Bart Jul 24 '12 at 16:12

@Brat,that's not fair,is it? Poster can't edit the question and he has nothing to do but to see his reputation going down!! – Mistu4u Jul 24 '12 at 16:39
  • I hope that misspelling of my name is not intentional. ;) In any case, you could still edit your question even if it's closed. Closed does not equal dead. If there is something to correct or improve that's still possible. In this particular case I don't see how this would help you, but then again Meta rep does not mean a whole lot. So don't sweat it too much. For regular questions on SO and other SEs this does however give you the opportunity to turn your question around into something good. – Bart Jul 24 '12 at 16:58
  • @Bart no that was not intentional and see this time it's 100% correct!! :) – Mistu4u Jul 24 '12 at 17:46
