I had an old cookie-based account at https://stackoverflow.com/users/17684/oliver and would like to merge my new password-protected account (https://stackoverflow.com/users/2148773/oliver) into that old account... I'd like to keep at least the reputation and links to questions and answers; but if possible I'd also like to keep the low account ID :-)

I don't have the cookie for the old account any more, but it uses the same email as the new one.

Could a moderator please perform that merge?

Alternatively, if merging in that direction is not possible, could you please merge the old account (17684) into the new one (2148773)?

Thanks a lot, Oliver

  • TRiG: I don't know how to perform step 2 "Edit your other user profile(s) "About Me" to say merge me as well.". I don't have the cookie for the old account any more. How can I edit the About Me part of that account? – oliver Mar 8 '13 at 15:09
  • You could try filling in the "Additional Information" box on that form with the relevant information. Alternatively, there's a note at the bottom of the page: "If your issue was not covered above, please feel free to contact us directly." – TRiG is Timothy Richard Green Mar 8 '13 at 16:51
  • TRiG: thanks for your patience :-) . The page at meta.stackoverflow.com/help/user-merge/submit rejects my old account URL because it doesn't start with meta. . Any idea how to get that meta URL for the account? Also, the Contact Us Directly form had rejected my text for "being suspicious". Any hints what might cause that? – oliver Mar 8 '13 at 17:46
  • So don't use Meta SO user-merge. If it's SO accounts you're merging, use the SO user-merge form. – TRiG is Timothy Richard Green Mar 8 '13 at 17:51
  • Thanks for the hint, I've requested a merge via the SO form now! – oliver Mar 8 '13 at 18:03
  • Good luck! It'll be sorted out in the end, I'm sure. – TRiG is Timothy Richard Green Mar 8 '13 at 18:03
  • (The way accounts are independent on each site can be confusing. Also, on most sites the meta account is tied to the main account, but Meta SO is an exception, which makes things further confusing. This may change at some point.) – TRiG is Timothy Richard Green Mar 8 '13 at 18:04
  • Thanks for your help! Accounts have been merged now successfully :-) Should I answer this question myself, or can somebody close it? – oliver Mar 8 '13 at 18:11
  • I've flagged it for closure as "too localised" (which, since it's now been dealt with, it is). – TRiG is Timothy Richard Green Mar 8 '13 at 18:12
