Whenever I try to use the Google login button, I get that^^. Seems like it never navigates away from the site (it happens both when I'm logged in and logged out of Google). Strangely, if I put the Google OpenId endpoint link in the "other" box and log in, it works.

Today morning (from mobile), I had the same problem with the SE login as well. Fortunately my cookies had me logged in on Chem.SE, and I could add the Google login (which had mysteriously disappeared from "my logins", though now my user history shows no sign of me adding it again this morning)

Seems like a bug to me.

  • You might be experiencing this – BinaryTox1n Mar 25 '13 at 19:27
  • @BinaryTox1n: Not possible, I'm behind a university proxy, so I have more or less one IP – Manishearth Mar 25 '13 at 19:32
  • I get that if I'm logged in on one SE site, then go to another SE site and click the Login link. When I first land on the site, it automatically logs me in in the background, and by the time I finish manually initiating the login request, I'm already logged in. Does the top of the page containing the "suspicious" error message show you as logged in (name/rep along the top of the page)? If so, you're likely experiencing the same thing. – Rachel Mar 25 '13 at 19:33
  • @Rachel: No, I'm not logged in when this happens (I refresh and it still happens) – Manishearth Mar 25 '13 at 19:34

Have you considered oscillation? – MikeTheLiar Mar 25 '13 at 19:40

@Manishearth your estimate of your "so I have more or less one IP" is quite incorrect; you've used 3 (from the same region) in the last minute (not including some app or other using the API, which is using a 4th very different IP) – Marc Gravell Mar 26 '13 at 12:48
  • @MarcGravell: huh. Looks like the proxy distributes itself over a subnet (I looked closer at my IP list). The app is github.com/nathan-osman/Stack-Alert . I guess you can close this as a dupe then :s – Manishearth Mar 26 '13 at 12:53
