The tag is used over 700 times on Stack Overflow, and has the following description:

Shortened from applications, commonly pointing applications in the online stores for mobile devices.

The tag has over 10,000 uses, with the following description:

An application is a software program designed to help the user to perform singular or multiple related specific tasks.

These both seem roughly equivalent to having a tag for or (which was burninated previously). Can we edit | close | delete questions with the or tags?

    @rekire Excellent point. We'll probably want to keep the tag for those few questions that are about that class. Jul 4, 2013 at 21:08
  • Are you trying to go through these first? A cursory examination doesn't turn up much that would be lost by just burning them...

  • @Shog9 I wouldn't mind if the ones tagged android + application were left to pick through, but we can probably just burn the rest. Jul 5, 2013 at 20:56
  • @rekire I ended up creating the [android-application] tag for questions dealing specifically with the Application class. Jul 6, 2013 at 14:42
  • Nope, the application [tag] is back again -- it's been like whack-a-mole; I'll get the tag cleaned up, and the next morning, it's back again. Been happening all week long. Jul 19, 2013 at 13:06
  • @LBT Yes, it looks like [application] is just too popular to die. It needs to go 24 hours without being used before new users can't create it again. I'll keep it on my watch list. Jul 19, 2013 at 13:11

I filtered the list down to android + application, and then further restricted my search to just those questions which contained either Application or .Application in a code block.

This resulted in all of 85 questions. You're free to retag these if you wish; I think it's pretty clear that finding them among the thousands of other questions with those tags would've been pretty difficult though, so I went ahead and burned these tags.

Please care for the widows and orphans...

Questions possibly about android.app.Application

  • if question.tags() == 'untagged' and question.lock() != 'historical' and question.score() <= 0: question.delete(), or something. Jul 5, 2013 at 22:36
  • Yeah, retagging these does seem a little bit easier than picking through 2500 questions. Thanks! :) Jul 5, 2013 at 23:05
