By watching Web Inspector of Safari, it is observed that cdn.sstatic.net seems to be blocked in China, rendering stack exchange sites virtually unusable. And it could be accessed by routing the ip address through VPN manually.

The ISP is China Unicom Beijing province network.

EDIT2: traceroute stopped at the 64th hop, which is OS X default, IMHO.

  • It looks like the sunny California was not blocked, hence the actual blocked IP range was the cdn's. Evil resides in the Great Firewall of China. – user255772 Mar 20 '14 at 6:24
