Some tags are automatically created when a new child meta is spawned, including mod-only tags like and mandatory tags like , as well as some ordinary tags like , , and .

Using Meta.Japanese as an example: if you look at the bounty tag there, you can see that it exists even though there are no questions there, since it asks you if you would like to create a tag wiki for it. On the other hand, the hypothetical asdfghjkl tag does not exist at all, and hence does not ask you about creating a tag wiki.

I would like to know which tags, like , exist by default in the system. It would be particularly nice if this information was available in SEDE or the API, but if not, an answer here would work, too. Knowing this would help me know which tags on meta sites need to have tag wikis added to protect them from the script that deletes single-use tags after 6 months.

I could, I suppose, glean this information by inspecting the tag list on Hinduism's meta right after it launches, but I think it would be good to have this information on Meta.

EDIT: The post this one is allegedly a duplicate of is no longer accurate. At minimum, it claims that delete is a tag that should be present on all child metas; however, as you can see at Meta.Japanese, there is no delete tag.

  • @random Thanks for the pointer; however, that post has not been updated for nearly four years at this point. I would still like to know whether or not it remains accurate.

  • It's a default tag, but since there have been no questions using "delete" for six months, and because there is no wiki, it was deleted

  • @random Are you sure that's how it works? Might you not be confused with the fact that tags with one question and no wiki are deleted after six months?

  • Why would a tag stick around if there are no questions using it?

  • @random Did you read this post? The bounty tag on Japanese Language Meta sticks around despite there being no questions using it because is one of the default tags!

  • What does this show you? meta.japanese.stackexchange.com/… (you'll need a diamond)

@random I don't have the privilege to view deleted questions there, but that's besides the point. Perhaps this will convince you: the top of this query lists a number of tags that are not in use, yet exist in the system. These tags are precisely a subset of the default tags!

  • If the other post is inaccurate, update it. Otherwise, you should refocus this to be a bug report on why the tag is still there when it shouldn't be

  • @random If I had the information necessary to correctly update the other post, I would have (or rather, I probably wouldn't have bothered, since I would have had the information I needed to begin with, but anyway)! That is exactly why I asked this question in the first place - to get that information. In any case, it is pretty clear that there are no bugs here, just inadequately-documented but intended behavior.
