How to disable this virus Welcome back banner? I quite tired of closing it each time I enter site. Btw, did the genius inventor of it hope that user will read this marvelous banner hundreds of times at each enter?

I'm voting to close this question as off-topic because it is just pointless rant, not actual request – ShaWiz Aug 1 '17 at 11:17
  • @ShadowWizard I wonder why the gray background doesn't cover all the banner o.o – ItamarG3 Aug 1 '17 at 11:19
  • @ItamarG3 no idea, will take a look when seeing it, maybe with one of my sock accounts. :) – ShaWiz Aug 1 '17 at 11:19
  • @ShadowWizard I can't see it. How do I repro? – ItamarG3 Aug 1 '17 at 11:20

@ItamarG3 don't visit for a while (maybe even a month) then you'll see it when coming back and viewing a question. – ShaWiz Aug 1 '17 at 11:21

Really! If you don't have enough experience and vision to understand its harm, then of course it is 'just pointless rant'. – midenok Aug 1 '17 at 11:21

With experience and vision I actually understand how much voting is vital for Stack Exchange, even these days, so the banner must stay. – ShaWiz Aug 1 '17 at 11:22

Google for a question on a site you didn't visit for some time. I used this search google.com/… @ItamarG3 – Patrick Hofman Aug 1 '17 at 11:22
  • @PatrickHofman thanks. I have just the site (3d print...) – ItamarG3 Aug 1 '17 at 11:23
  • Why do you connect it with voting? Do you think showing it multiple times to one man will make it voting? I vote btw, so why it shows to me if algorithm can check average user activity? Anyway, telling something to a man many times is a BAD IDEA. Besides that no one will read it second time, it's just stupid! – midenok Aug 1 '17 at 11:26
  • Midenok - it doesn't appear to those who use the site frequently. It is a reminder for those who don't. You don't need to see it... – Rory Alsop Aug 1 '17 at 13:59
  • I use it frequently and I see it frequently (every day). Maybe it is a bug? – midenok Aug 1 '17 at 15:52

I think the banner is good. It encourages good behavior. If you haven't been around for a long time you might need a reminder to vote on the posts. That is what quality control is about.

I wonder why you think this banner is a bad idea. Note that Stack Exchange isn't there just for you to get your answer and then move on. You can invest just a little by voting on the usefulness of posts. That helps future visitors to see the best answers first.

Calling the banner a virus is showing your lack of appreciation for all the hard work is done to get you your answer. A shame.

@midenok Calm down. The way you are choosing to express yourself isn't helping your request. – yannis Aug 1 '17 at 11:25

@midenok Mind your words. This was exactly what yannis was talking about. Don't take this too personal... – Patrick Hofman Aug 1 '17 at 11:35
  • Yes, it is a virus! You are doing your job because of duty before community, not for appreciation. Like I do. If you expect something in exchange, then you are just consumer. And if you are asking for it, then it is worse. From now on I will stop voting because I've already spent my click on this attention eater. – midenok Aug 1 '17 at 15:58
