Now that we can retract flags, I think when a duplicate flag is retracted, the comment that was created as a result of the flag, should be removed as well.

This has a bit to do with this question:

<50 reputation users can't delete comments that were posted on their behalf

It's a minor annoyance currently that the owner of said comment, needs to remove it. I don't think there's ever a case where someone would want to retract a duplicate flag, and not delete their comment as well.

I don't think there's ever a case where someone would want to retract a duplicate flag, and not delete their comment as well.

It could also be the case that you were not the only one who thought of it as a dupe; others may have upvoted or flagged as dupe as well.

In that case, if the comment where removed automatically the +1 other voters gave to it would go away with it.

Besides that I think it will not harm to include this feature (something like -1 vote if others voted, else delete the comment)...

On the other hand, if the comment were indeed outdated or obsolete the Community can also handle the cleaning, by flagging accordingly (as the now rephrased "Not Relevant" which includes outdated comments).

Even if there comment was highly upvoted, I would still remove it, as I was the original creator, and therefore it had my name on it. If I didn't think it was a duplicate, then my comment no longer stands. – FrankerZ Aug 1 '18 at 17:57
  • @FrankerZ I made a relevant typo on my post, edited it – DarkCygnus Aug 1 '18 at 17:58
  • Additionally: I'm not a huge fan of adding more moderation work to remove bad "Possible Duplicate" comments. – FrankerZ Aug 1 '18 at 18:02
  • @FrankerZ IMHO there is no "new" work being added, as currently that is how it's done now (manually). Surely if this feature were implemented there would be less comments to prune out – DarkCygnus Aug 1 '18 at 18:06
