Since my answer to the original CoC FAQ had been deleted right away, I had published my position on the CoC change in the "about" section of my profile (all of my profiles to be precise). This has been edited (in all profiles) and large parts were removed without notice or explanation.
I want to know
- Who did that?
Edit 1 (2019-10-24)
To clear up possible confusion: yes, I essentially copy/pasted my statement from the deleted answer into my profile. The wording was changed slightly in some places, but the overall message remained the same.
Edit 2 (2019-10-24)
To clarify further, I'm not interested in speculation what other people think the reason for the deletion might have been. I want to know who deleted the text and what that person's reason was.
Edit 3 (2019-10-30)
The moderator flag was declined with the canned response "flags should only be used to make moderators aware of content that requires their intervention". Apparently flagging for moderator attention is not the way to go about this issue, so I opened a support ticket (#85226).
Edit 4 (2019-11-13)
The automatic response to the support request said
We have received your request and a ticket has been created. For your reference, your ticket number is 85226. We strive to respond within 1 business day, but response times can vary. Thank you for your patience, and we'll respond as soon as we can.
That was 2 weeks ago. Since then: radio silence.
So, apparently there actually wasn't anything wrong with what I said in my "about me" section. I guess I'll be exerting my human right of free speech then.
Edit 5 (2019-11-29)
A week ago (on 2019-11-22) my Meta SE account was suspended and the content of my "about me" section deleted again. Only this time there was a moderator message:
We wanted to let you know that we've observed some rudeness in your latest activity. We get it; anyone who's ever tried to engage with others online has probably been tempted to lash out at someone else. This is just a friendly reminder that we require all participants to act in a professional and civil tone when using these sites. If another user has wronged you in some way, please do not respond in kind. Simply flag the content for moderator attention and move on.
Referring to the usage of neopronouns as "lunacy" is rude. Not understanding something doesn't make it crazy. You are free to disagree with the usage but you may not malign the people who use them.
We have temporarily suspended your account; you may return after 7 days.
So apparently what used to be the policy
in the rare cases where what's there is likely to be truly offensive to large groups of seemingly reasonable people, we may not allow it
has now been thrown out of the window and replaced with
in any case where what's there might be considered offensive to anyone by someone, we may not allow it
So, as promised, I've terminated my activity on Stack Overflow and all other Stack Exchange network sites. This is my last update, just to wrap things up.
Oh, and if anyone still believes there is no agenda at play here, ask yourself: Why was my account not suspended the first time? Why did they keep radio silence for weeks despite me reaching out repeatedly and requesting clarification? Why wait until the controversy around the CoC change had died down considerably before making this move? And why suspend only the account I'm least active in, despite the statement being on all of my profiles? Makes you wonder, doesn't it?
