When I try to login to the Stack Exchange Data Explorer using Stack Overflow, it fails with the following error message:

StackApps authentication failed

I've tried several browsers, and even in incognito mode it's not working so it can't be a cookie problem. Also when I try to login with a sockpuppet account, which hasn't logged in before, it asks for permission (which is expected) but then fails with the same error message.

And the Stack API itself is up, right?

I can run sample requests from the API documentation page, yes.

Log in using Google works for me, so it doesn't seem to be an issue in the shared authentication flow.

"certificate has expired" is an error I get in an auth flow. But when I visit the host directly in the browser the cert is fine and valid. I have an app that posts to https://stackexchange.com/oauth/access_token and that returns me a certificate has expired.

I was trying to get my hands on the actual expired certificate but I managed to IP block Glitch.com ....
