So I've just visited the superuser.com beta site and I must say I really like the color schemes and the way everything are so light and bright and just get out of the way for most things.

I feels like, why didn't StackOverflow use that scheme?

Which site, in the SO trilogy, do you like best design-wise?

Logic would dictate that this question should only have 4 answers, not 6... but then again, when is anything that should be dictated by logic actually dictated by logic? =) – gnostradamus Jul 16 '09 at 19:34

Should be CW perhaps? (not that I care, personally) – David Z Jul 16 '09 at 21:38

And none of those 6 answers were suggesting the serverfault site. – Ola Eldøy Jul 17 '09 at 14:41

The Best is StackOverflow.

  • Meta is too sad.
  • SuperUser is too blue.
  • ServerFault have good look, but I like orange. :)

Color schema at Meta has lot of common with Jeffs opinion on meta discusion, I think. :) http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/archives/001282.html

For some reason, I just imagined the Meta logo crying grey tears ;) – Lucas Jones Jul 16 '09 at 16:14

I like the vibrant colors of Super User.

Agreed. Although it does tend to remind me a lot of the color schemes used by your typical web2.0 apps – TheTXI Jul 16 '09 at 16:31
  • @TheTXI Really web2.0 .... but other sites just feel like Jeff hacked it from the default ASP.NET MVC template ... not really give it a proper scheme – chakrit Jul 16 '09 at 16:57

I really like grayscale and bleak, sad themes, so for me, it's meta.

And for the 8% of mostly male customers who have some form of colour blindness... they're different?

  • do you mean form? – Rich Seller Jul 16 '09 at 19:38
  • Depends on what "colour" is blinded ... – chakrit Jul 16 '09 at 21:13
  • @Rich: thanks and fixed. @chakrit: probably enough to spoil the effect – gbn Jul 17 '09 at 13:21

I think superuser has the nicest general appearance. Unfortunately, if falls down in a few edge cases and where it fails, it fails spectacularly.

So at the moment I have to vote the original SO. But maybe by the end of the week superuser will have it.

  • I agree that SU needs a few more days of polish before the playing field is level. And at that point people might changes their opinion. – Timothy Carter Jul 16 '09 at 16:15

It's got to be SO. The easiest on the eye. Clearly differentiated new, answered and accepted questions. I feel like other are missing this with SU's blue being too bright and hard to read.

I like the dashed (should that be dashing?) serverfault boxes.
