Possible Duplicate:
Will edited comments reach addressees?

I use @username a fair bit in comments, but sometimes I manage forget the name when writing the comment, and I usually will spot this error instantly went doing my final double-check after posting - well within the 5mins edit time for comments.

So, if I then edit this comment and add the @username, will it still generate the intended notifications for that user? Or, do I need to delete and repost the amended comment to trigger it?

For some reason I've been doing the latter, without really thinking about it, and it's finally dawned on me that it's probably easier to just ask.

Short answer: yes, editing in @name will send a new notification, as answered at Will edited comments reach addressees?. – Grace Note Sep 7 '10 at 16:56
  • @Grace - thanks, somehow missed that question. Guess it's best to leave this here to be closed as a dupe so others don't make my mistake in the future? – DMA57361 Sep 7 '10 at 16:57
  • DMA57361: So when I edit this into @GraceNote, Grace'll be notified after you've been notified and this is a work-around for multiple replies in one comment? – Tobias Kienzler Sep 9 '10 at 8:29
  • @Tobias That's a very time-sensitive workaround - editing out the original notification removes it from that user's activity report. So you will only be able to catch multiple users if they're watching during that 5 minute period. – Grace Note Sep 9 '10 at 12:20
  • Also, in this case, I get notifed anyway because it's my question. – DMA57361 Sep 9 '10 at 12:21
  • @Grace Note: oh, I thought it was the same as with a deleted comment - there one gets still notified after deletion. @DMA: d'oh, test failed :( – Tobias Kienzler Sep 9 '10 at 13:31
  • @Tobias Not quite on that, either. A deleted comment is not retained in your activity report. A report for a live comment on a deleted post is only retained if it is a proper comment reply, so you still only get one possible notice in that scenario. – Grace Note Sep 9 '10 at 13:45
  • @Grace: ok, I see – Tobias Kienzler Sep 9 '10 at 13:50
