Stack Exchange…

 …without asking the community first.

The core community [is](https://meta.stackexchange.com/q/333089/317948) [tired](https://meta.stackexchange.com/q/329763/317948) [of](https://meta.stackexchange.com/q/309746/317948) [radical](https://meta.stackexchange.com/q/316934/317948) [changes](https://meta.stackexchange.com/q/310908/317948) [being](https://meta.stackexchange.com/a/364263/317948) [announced](https://meta.stackexchange.com/questions/364556/the-future-of-community-promotion-open-source-and-hot-network-questions-ads#comment1217502_364770) *as* they happen.

[Stop lying to your users.](https://web.archive.org/web/20191122202333/https://meta.stackexchange.com/questions/334248/an-update-to-our-community-and-an-apology/334268#answer-334268)

Of course, *you* didn't lie, but you *can* still make an important change with minimal effort and no cost: [Come clean](https://meta.stackexchange.com/a/334605/317948) on behalf of Stack Exchange.

Make sure not to make it wordy or legalese. Here's an idea for a formulation:

> On behalf of Stack Exchange, I'm very sorry for how we mistreated Monica, and how lies and cover-ups were used in the aftermath. I will keep this terrible incident in mind, to make sure such a thing doesn't happen on my watch.

**Edit:** [Yet another radical change](https://meta.stackexchange.com/q/368285/317948) announced as it happened.
