What's going on with Area 51?

Following up on Mad Scientist's recap of Area 51, there was a particularly salient point: The Area 51 process has significant flaws … but it still works somehow. … it still works somehow. I've been ...

Is there an Area 51 policy on offering money to people who follow or commit to their proposals?

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. As the other answers here note, our site lifecycle presupposes that the people who commit to proposals and help sites go through their beta phases do so ...

After the recent CM departures, are there plans to shut down network sites or Area 51?

TL;DR: We're not planning to shut down any SE sites. The future of Area 51 is still uncertain. Last week the CM team met with Teresa, our new CPO, and we talked about what the future of the ...

After the recent CM departures, are there plans to shut down network sites or Area 51?

I think the obvious answer is "Yes". SE, as a company, is very clearly in the process of re-thinking their core competencies, in ways that make them attractive to investors. That was, after all, ...

Should we reconsider the requirements for making new cryptocurrency sites?

I'd just prohibit new cryptocurrency proposals entirely. There is no way to predict which ones will stay for the long run, if even any of them will. And the topic is inherently problematic in many ...

What's going on with Area 51?

The technical aspect is answered by Anna Lear in a comment on here post: There was a time when Q&A sites worked the same as A51 in that respect. They've been upgraded. Area 51 is a separate ...

Why is my profile image different?

We noticed the same thing too last night. For at least one user, the gravatars in chat were not what they're supposed to be on main, even though the profile pages contained the original gravatars (...

What is the point of having different sites for each service in the same or similar domain?

{reposted from a deleted Area51 Discussion} I have been trying to understand why Stack Exchange has opted to have several different Cryptocurrency sites instead of a single site for a long time. In ...

Is there a mechanism for closing graduated SE sites?

The blog post you linked is a bit out of date: SE no longer shuts down sites simply for "struggl[ing] to maintain any semblance of steady progress". But a few sites have still been shut down in the ...

No association bonus for Area51?

Area 51 is different from the Q&A sites. Very different. It is a completely different beast. Reputation gained on Area 51 doesn't indicate that one has gained knowledge in how the Q&A ...

Private betas, launches, relaunches, rules for promotion, and community partnerships

Suspicious activity in the Area 51 proposal for Roblox

Why is my profile image different?

There's two different things going on here; on the main site and chat, the problem is an ongoing quirk in gravatar; I see (this may vary for you): 32-pixels, red - https://www.gravatar.com/avatar/...

PSA: When linking to an Area 51 proposal, don't link directly to "follow"!

This has been fixed. Any URL to a proposal with follow=1 will no longer automatically cause the visitor to follow. This should also prevent any existing links from causing an auto-follow as well.

SE website should notify users who committed to a site on Area51 when the site goes to private beta

Is there an Area 51 policy on offering money to people who follow or commit to their proposals?

Remove the pointless Area 51 roundabout to login to a private beta?
