The main benefit would be turning new Public Q/A and curation features into a viable revenue stream for the site. Sorry, I am already doing work for free. I do not want to also pay for it.

For me the answer was to sign in. I'm using vanilla Chrome with no Ad blockers or other extensions. A dark pattern if you ask me.
