I left research and teaching in physics not distinguished in either endeavor and, more importantly, not liking the working environments. From physics, I did a time reversal on Albert Einstein's career by supporting myself as a civil servant. I would say my comparison with the great theorist ends there.
As a civil servant, I was able to retire early and was pleased to do from then on only what I chose within the limits of my assets.
For keeping the "little grey cells" active, I indulge my dilettante's interests, which currently include playing alto and soprano recorders. Also of interest to me in an undisciplined way are the follies of my fellow human beings as expressed in history and current affairs. I maintain a good reading knowledge of French and German. I jog and workout regularly but moderately. In my locality, I do not know anyone with what are called academic interests; so I am often at the computer.
