Now that Winter Bash 2014 is over, StackExchange posted a wrap-up blog which revealed the canonical rules for each secret hat. You can read it herepost has been written: http://blog.stackoverflow.com/2015/01/so-long-winter-bash-2014/So long Winter Bash 2014

Chameleon

Chameleon is tricky. It is currently unknown exactly what the trigger for it iswas supposed to be awarded to users when they change their avatar, but it includes editing your profile.

The current theory is that you are randomly assigned a name of a profile field[a bug] (e.g. About Me, Website, Location). Editing that specific field will give you the hat.

Things that have been known to trigger the hat:

  • Editing only Email, Profile Picture, Birthday, Display Name, Location, About Me, or Website URL.
  • Editing multiple fields, e.g. About Me and Website.
  • Creating a new account on a site, i.e. attempting to log in on a site you have not created an account for, and then clicking "Confirm And Create This Account"

However, there have been many cases where making the edits mentioned above did not result3 triggered it in the hat being awardedother situations.

Time Lord

Time Lord can be earned by editing 5 oldfive questions. One that were posted more than a year old appears to be old enough.

It is unconfirmed whether it can be earned by editing answersago.

Waffles

Waffles can be earned by downvoting a question, editing it (approved suggested edits count), and then changing your downvote to an upvote.

The edit must be contributed by yourself, and suggested edits count. Answers do not appear to be eligible, and upvoting then downvoting does not trigger the hat.

enter image description here

Warm Welcome

Warm Welcome is earned by upvoting a newany user's first post.

It is unconfirmed exactly how new the user has to be. Upvoting users with the 100 starting rep (because that user has certain amount of rep in other StackExchange sites) didn't trigger this hat.

You don't have to outline the *exact* criteria for the hat to get the Eureka award. How close you have to be may depend on the whim of whoever's awarding them.
