Jul 10, 2009 at 17:12 | comment | added | Brad Gilbert | I have an axe to grind about the people who assume I have an axe to grind. I want data, I make my best decisions when I have mare data than with no data, so I asked this question.
Jul 6, 2009 at 22:56 | comment | added | tbone | BradG, the feeling I get from all you have written here is that you are looking for more than just information...the words you have chosen gives me the feeling you have an axe to grind, or are out to get someone. Thats how it feels to me, maybe I am misinterpreting your words, but thats how it comes across to me.
Jul 6, 2009 at 3:12 | comment | added | Jeff Atwood | These kinds of users can be problematic (harmful to the overall health of the community), so this is a legitimate concern.
Jul 5, 2009 at 20:07 | comment | added | Brad Gilbert | I have just noticed that the particular users they have been talking about tend to have those attributes.
Jul 5, 2009 at 19:53 | comment | added | Brad Gilbert | The main reason for this question was to get other peoples opinion. I am a little discouraged by how easy it is for them to get rep, by asking really rather pointless questions, which probably should have been CW. The main reason I participate, is I actually like helping others, and it appears from what I've read that they are here to do anything but.
Jul 5, 2009 at 19:47 | comment | added | Brad Gilbert | I don't care if people use the site like that. I actually wanted to find out if there were other users, who aren't actively harmful, who would be hurt by any systematic changes to discourage those particular users. I don't actually know for certain they are harmful, that is one of the reasons I asked this question.
Jul 5, 2009 at 19:40 | comment | added | Nathan Fellman | I didn't mean to imply that you said that. However, certain people (Rich B, Gortok and their friends) haver certainly used that word or similar words in the same context. The fact that you even consider a high question/answer ratio a problem certainly implies that you don't think highly of such people, whether or not you choose the word "freeloader" or not.
Jul 5, 2009 at 19:16 | comment | added | Brad Gilbert | I do believe, I have NEVER said, about anyone, ever, that they were a freeloader. I'm only just trying to gain information that will better help direct the community surrounding Stack Overflow. If you don't want to help in that effort, that's fine, just stop putting words in my mouth.
