Why doesn't SOStack Exchange recognize Shift+Enter for new line?

Every time I want to write on a new line I press Shift+Enter, and onShift+Enter. In the Editor it goes to new line, but on the Preview, it stays on the same line. So

So I have to make 2 new lines in order to get some separation.

Why can't I just make a new line without having a whole other blank line in between?

Why doesn't SO recognize Shift+Enter for new line?
