Preventing unauthorized automated access to the network
TOTALLY not related to the data dump kill project, right?

User activation: Learnings and opportunities
building on what @VLAZ already said, the "effort to rep" relationship is totally skewed: not only luck plays a big role, the site you are on contributes too. If I compare my SciFi and SharePoint rep the numbers are almost the same, but the spent effort is far higher on SharePoint. Working hard to find answers to SharePoint problems and getting little to no recognition while an answer to a question about Asterix gets to HNQ and gives me 68 votes... only teaches me to avoid wasting my time on SharePoint.

User activation: Learnings and opportunities
@Shog9 I think that the takeaway here is less about the term and more about them using it. The term by itself may not be "dehumanizing" but it certainly comes with a loaded meaning that betrays a numbers driven mentality that only focuses on increasing the sites stats without any regard to thing like community management or actually getting in touch with your userbase.... But for some reason I guess you already got that ... Calling us numbers to "activate" is something I expect from a company that laid off most if not all of its CM staff.

User activation: Learnings and opportunities
@NoDataDumpNoContribution problem is that the rep required for the various site privileges is the same on most (if not every) site in the network because the company has always claimed that everything is working fine. Maybe 20k is nothing on SO, but it means TOP 12 on SharePoint. Basically you have a site where less than 12 users have delete vote privileges.

Allow regular (non-moderator) users to easily view if/when a moderator accessed their PII
Which would only mean that mods would be incentivized to have a reason to access the PII, something they can say when they get pointed out. Seems a win to me.

I assume this is just about development related request / issues, right?

Is the company selling our Personal Information or not?
@wizzwizz4 also, admitting Google has privileged api access and document it would also cause a lot of more issues. There is no way they could portrait "Google tracking" as "needed" for the reasonable requirements of running the site, and as far as I get Google is ingrained in the site MORE than being just an ads provider. So I would not be surprised if some of the data Google gets was out of scope and sanction-able. Alas, this is not the point either, I don't want to play guessing. THE POINT IS THAT THEY HAD 3 YEARS SINCE SOMEONE FIRST ASKED THIS, YET THEY HAVE TO START INVESTIGATING NOW??

Is the company selling our Personal Information or not?
@wizzwizz4 the "all caps bit" probably dates back to JEFF, so another management and more importantly another "Business Mission". Jeff build the site for the purpose of creating an archive of knowledge. This is not the goal anymore. So it is quite possible that the line was true "a long long time ago in a far away galaxy" but since then shady practices were followed, data was sold for reasons outside its covered collection scope and thus now they are panicking because there is no way to answer this without either lying or admitting some violation.

Is the company selling our Personal Information or not?
@bad_coder thanks for pointing out. I have updated the post to reflect this. Also, IMHO this escalated the issue from "maybe they are genuinely confused" to "they have been knowing for three years and don't give a damn"

Data Dumps - updates and bug fixes
And sadly, while obviously this is not Berthold fault as the one who picked the shortest straw and had to post this, the provide updates once again cherry picked some easily solvable points while missing the core ones. Just one simple example - some time ago someone pointed out a big fallacy in the data dump licensing detail that based on the wording of the CC license actually resulted in automatic termination. The issue was resolved, but the company carefully avoided even acknowledging the existence of the revocation clause. And this is only one of the "I don't hear you" issues.
