May 1, 2018 at 14:20 | comment | added | matteo | The rule is just idiotic. Now instead of the moderators being "overwhelmed" by having to review trivial edits, you'll have COMMENTS pointing out typos. That's what you deserve for putting in place such a stupid rule, and what's worse (because anybody can have an idiotic idea from time to time and think it's brilliant) keeping it in place.
Nov 25, 2017 at 4:07 | comment | added | j0equ1nn | I notice that this answer is much more popular than the one defending the minimum. Seems like maybe the rule should be reconsidered.
Mar 10, 2014 at 11:41 | comment | added | Conan | I'd suggest changing this restriction for code blocks. I just lost ten minutes googling for a "cone" function which should have been "cond". I'm not allowed to fix this so that the (otherwise very good) code example given would compile, which unfortunately makes an excellent answer much less useful.
Jul 31, 2013 at 16:37 | comment | added | Peter Alfvin | I just got over 2k today and received a notification pointing to stackoverflow.com/help/privileges/edit, which clearly discourages "single character" and "tiny" edits as well as "trivial" edits, even though the context is edits that don't require approval. So clearly, the "discouragement" is universal. In an amazing coincidence, I received at the same time a notification about a single-character edit to a post that I'd made myself, involving a classic workaround to the six-character limit. See stackoverflow.com/review/suggested-edits/2626869
Jun 6, 2013 at 12:34 | comment | added | Balog Pal | This rule is just nuts. In a programming question it's easy to make a 1 char mistake, or misspell a mentor's name or an acronym. That is essential to fix, but all else shall be left alone
Sep 13, 2011 at 11:52 | comment | added | kynan | Since I don't have enough reputation to upvote, I need to express my support for the suggestion to eliminate the "minimum 6 character change" rule in a comment. See?
Jun 17, 2011 at 15:41 | comment | added | jzd | @matt, oh. I think there are several meta questions about that. The answer is that is not a good idea, as just because you know how to use a SE site, doesn't mean you know what should be edited or not on a different site.
Jun 17, 2011 at 15:38 | comment | added | matt b | I understand that they don't carry over today. I was suggesting that perhaps they could/should.
Jun 17, 2011 at 1:52 | comment | added | jzd | @matt, no privileges carry over. Just a 100 rep bonus.
Jun 17, 2011 at 0:45 | comment | added | matt b | Can peer-edit privileges carry over among the various sites? Surely if I have enough reputation on SO to access all privileges (20k-plus) I can be trusted to not make improper edits on other SE sites where I might be new.
Feb 11, 2011 at 21:41 | comment | added | Iszi | @Box9 - Yes, it's faster for the >2k users to fix an issue themselves. But, that presumes that they notice it and care enough in the first place. Allowing <2k users to suggest these edits helps bring them to light where they might otherwise go unaddressed.
Feb 7, 2011 at 7:44 | comment | added | David Tang | @sth, Regarding letting <2k rep users make spelling edits: it is often faster to just fix those yourself (if you have >2k rep) than to read someone else's proposal and then accept. However, this may not be the case for more significant edits, and that's where the real value of this peer review system comes in.
Feb 4, 2011 at 16:34 | comment | added | Ian Ringrose | @C.Ross, I think the real problem is that not enough people are able to see the list of pending edits, and that the list is getting in your way - not that there are too many pending edits.
Jan 31, 2011 at 18:03 | comment | added | C. Ross | @jzd It's either 10k or 20k.
Jan 31, 2011 at 17:53 | comment | added | jzd | @C. Ross, that is strange I don't see it. However I only have 3000 rep.
Jan 31, 2011 at 17:39 | comment | added | C. Ross | @jzd It shows up at my top bar with a large number of proposed edits I have to wade through. @sth I would say that the typos are not worth barraging your moderators with. I'm not sure what it will be like with High Rep users included.
Jan 31, 2011 at 15:02 | comment | added | sth | @C.: Is it less overwhelming if the high rep users have to do all those edits themselves? Or do you want to say we'd be better off without having those errors fixed?
Jan 31, 2011 at 14:55 | comment | added | jzd | @c.Ross, Just so I can understand better, how do the peer edits overwhelm the moderators or high level users. I have accepted a couple of peer edits and they save me time because they are changes I would have made myself. (Some where very small).
Jan 31, 2011 at 14:53 | comment | added | jzd | @Arjan, thanks for the confirmation. I have now updated the answer.

Thanks to arjan, confirmed first sentence.

Jan 31, 2011 at 14:49 | comment | added | C. Ross | The first sentence is correct, but please, please leave this in place. Such minor changes are overwhelming the moderators and high level users.
