A better way to handle common problems in reviewing newbie questions
@Louis: Yes, 14.2K right now, so how many don't get closed that should? And how many get reopened? I'm suggesting a quicker lighter way to suspend questions that are good candidates for salvage, to make the review process work better.

@gnat: Yes, that link is about the same problem and yes, I wait and no, I can only flag, I don't have the rep to vote on close. This is a quest for a middle ground when reviewing. Something more definitive than comment and wait, something less brutal than instant vote/flag to close.

See edit. I'm reluctant to flag to close when the question is obviously salvageable. I suspect all these choices look quite different to high rep users and I don't actually know what motivates them.

A better way to handle common problems in reviewing newbie questions
@gnat: I review what I find. I have equal rep on SO and Programmers and I really don't focus on one or the other. Yes they're different, but the newbies look much the same. I have imperfect understanding of the various features and nuances, and I'm not sure I can do much better.

Is a short cryptic comment better than none, especially for a newish user?
@KurtE.Clothier: Etiquette on SO can be a subtle thing, as I am still learning as I close in on 2K. Meta SO is a better place to get the 10K+ crowd to provide words of wisdom, rather than debating in the comments. I think Rosinante pretty much nailed it.

This was my interpretation of what happened here. The OP didn't like it. I thought here would be a better place to spell this out, rather than debating in the comments. Thanks.

Why do I stay logged in on Stack Overflow but always need to login to Programmers?
Thanks for the reopen. Would you believe this went from a minus to a 'Nice Question' badge in an instant?

What I missed of course is that the sites have different domains and therefore different cookie settings in Firefox. Thanks for reopening -- someone else may benefit from this.
