Firing Community Managers: Stack Exchange is not interested in cooperating with the community, is it?
I'm afraid I don't understand this story either. Was Bob the only one who kept the website going? Did he sabotage it (ethically even)? Or was Bob not involved with that outcome?

@ChappoSaysSEDuddedMonica Thank you. And yeah. It's like none of it ever mattered.

@dimlostfaithinSE Any individual staff can & usually will have one or more favorite stacks. Some staff people were even moderators first. But this isn't about "let's keep our favorites around." It's about focusing resources on what makes the company money & gives it prestige. I'm fine with that. I mean if the company goes under, all this goes away anyway. I just don't want them to burn down the less profitable parts in the process. They've spent far more hours & emotional energy on this than they could have just by saying "sorry" & fixing it. The sorry is the hard part & they've done that.

Change in roles for Jon Ericson (leaving SE)
Lovely tribute to Jon. And I feel for you and have no doubts that companies will be lining up to have the chance of getting you to work for them. Much support to you.

I wish you all the best. You and Robert and Shog have been excellent here at SE and I hope every one of you lands where you want to be.

Update: an agreement with Monica Cellio
@LiamMorris-ReinstateMonica I am not going to stop pushing and I hope you won't either. Of course there's more than one path to reinstatement! It's only SE management that's pretending the only way forward is to do that new process that has no appeals, no transparency, no safeguards against bias, and no promises (as if they don't already know how they'll rule!). Why should we accept their framing? We need to push for what they should have done after their mistake (a mistake they claim to regret): full unconditional reinstatement with no hoops to jump through. Please join me.

@gung-ReinstateMonica I know you haven't. We just need to make sure SE knows how important this is to us. And why we can't return to business as usual until it's resolved. Resolving the lawsuit is only half of it.

Update: an agreement with Monica Cellio
@LiamMorris-ReinstateMonica We still need to push for full reinstatement. Unconditionally, without begging or gambling. Sure, she's "reached an agreement" & can't say much of anything now, but nowhere has she ever said she didn't want to return. In fact, she's been pretty clear over the months that she wants her diamonds back. If she were done with SE, she'd have left altogether, & she hasn't. Even if she were meh about returning (who could blame her), full reinstatement must be our goal. Not just for Monica; it's for all of us. SE should not withhold this from her. We need to keep pushing.

@gung-ReinstateMonica The best I can do is suggest that we don't let this go. Don't let this be smoothed over and forgotten. Obviously they don't actually care (aside from the SO community, none of our communities mean anything to them; we don't help them sell stuff) but the least I can do is make sure they know we haven't stopped caring too.

@gung-ReinstateMonica It's fine to ask for a check in as you've done, but please stop asking people in this public space what their resignation plans are. Even if I'm convinced you have the best of intentions (and I don't know you), you're not the only ears here. I don't have plans, since I don't consider this chapter of my life closed yet. But the repeated questioning is getting a bit much. Thank you.

That's all fine but, without unconditional reinstatement for Monica, everything else is meaningless.

@gung-ReinstateMonica The defamation piece is over and done. Monica agreed to drop her lawsuit in exchange for SE's statement and one or more additional things we may never know about. She may or may not be satisfied, but there's nothing left on that front. Did SE ethically do all they could? Of course not. But that's neither here nor there. The one thing we can still push for is unconditional reinstatement. Monica has stated she wants this and it is frankly disgusting that it hasn't happened yet. Keep the pressure on SE for this! It's important!
