Is there a way to filter the "hot questions" displayed in the StackExchangeStack Exchange menu?

I have a profile on StackOverflowStack Overflow and that's pretty much it. Therefore the list as it is now is pretty useless because it just adds noise - I'm not coming to StackOverflowStack Overflow to discuss terrorists and the like ;-)
