There's a new banner shown on some of the technology Stack Exchange sites:

Meet The Overflow, a newsletter by developers, for developers. Fascinating questions, illuminating answers, and entertaining links from around the web. Learn more

When I dismiss it on e.g. Stack Overflow, I expect it to disappear from other sites as well. But that doesn't happen.

    Yeah this starts to be super annoying, almost the same as spam emails. We get promotion stuff cluttering the page where we never asked for those at all. – Shadow Oct 2 at 7:54

    TamperMonkey or GreaseMonkey, either is for you. – iBug Oct 2 at 8:18
  • For the record, I still consider this a bug: "Indicates a reproducible problem on the site that you believe is due to a mistake, malfunction, or programming error." It's both a mistake and a design error. – Glorfindel Oct 3 at 7:09

It turns out this happened before with the net neutrality banner. The banner has received some updates so the script is different this time. In time, I'll write something that uses cross-domain storage to remember if you have dismissed the banner once (as opposed to dismissing it always, even before you see it the first time):

// ==UserScript==
// @name Stack Exchange Dismiss Announcement Banner
// @namespace   https://github.com/Glorfindel83/
// @description Automatically dismisses an announcement banner whenever you visit a (new) site.
// @author      Glorfindel
// @version     0.1
// @match       *://*.stackexchange.com/*
// @match       *://*.stackoverflow.com/*
// @match       *://*.superuser.com/*
// @match       *://*.serverfault.com/*
// @match       *://*.askubuntu.com/*
// @match       *://*.stackapps.com/*
// @match       *://*.mathoverflow.net/*
// @grant       none
// ==/UserScript==

(function () {
  "use strict";
  setTimeout(function() {
    $("div#announcement-banner a.js-dismiss").click();
  }, 100);
