Many people dislike the change of citation colours from yellow and orange to white and grey.

Please revert the quote background from white to yellow

In memory of the Yellow CSS Box

I agree that yellow and orange did not fit in with SE’s web design as much as white and grey do, but...

...white and grey are less visible.

So I propose 3 new colours that will fit in with SE’s colour palette of white, black and blue:

1. Blue

SE’s developers would know which exact hex values would be best.

2. Grey

Grey could be a more neutral alternative:

3. Black

A slight variation of grey:

I think the light-blue color that's used for OP's usercard background would work well here. – HolyBlackCat Mar 10 at 12:51

@HolyBlackCat that’s a good idea. When I coded a quick example on CodePen and snipped it, I didn’t check the colours the SE developers were already using. – Aryan Beezadhur Mar 10 at 12:53

You have to cater for the themes of each site as well: Blue is not going to work here I think and there are several other themed sites where I think blue is challenged. – rene Mar 10 at 13:47

I think just add a background back to quotes, with the side border, and make it per-site customisable. – TheLethalCoder Mar 10 at 14:50
  • Or we could use a light grey background with a black border? – Aryan Beezadhur Mar 10 at 15:06
  • The hidden quote look when you hover over it or click on it is good. I like that. – S.S. Anne Mar 10 at 17:17

I suppose grey is a poor choice because of the mismatch with code backgrounds. – Rebecca J. Stones Mar 11 at 0:24

Meh, personally I like this change and I'd bet that within a couple of weeks 90% of people who don't like it currently will have got used to it and will look at screencaps of the old design and think "Wow, why did we make quotes stand out so strongly for so long? A simple indented line is enough to see what's a quote and what isn't, it doesn't need to leap off the page". – user56reinstatemonica8 Mar 11 at 13:50

this is one of the many reasons the feature of having a custom css is needed. – Marco Aurelio Fernandez Reyes Mar 11 at 17:24

Blue is too similar to post notices, so also not a good choice. – user289905 Mar 12 at 17:12

@user289905 Blue is too similar to post notices post notices AND block quotes both used to be yellow! – pkamb Mar 15 at 20:02
